Struggles I faced

This Blog will consist of a discussion about Competitive Sport while at University, bringing in the troubles I faced. Later posts will also include interviews with top athletes and discuss how they manage this lifestyle.

Blog 1 - Me

Fresher’s, the time of drinking every night, meeting new people and having the ‘best week of your life’. However, day two of fresher’s I was starting my new training group after moving to Glasgow. As my flat mates proceeded to make plans for the evenings ‘sesh’ they asked me what I was doing, and of course I was going to my new training group. Yes in fresher’s week! Did they think I was crazy? The answer is probably yes. I told them I would be back later on and meet them out. Well... that soon failed when I returned home at 9pm absolutely exhausted and heading straight to my bed….

The struggles facing me were soon to come, how could I possibly train 9 times a week, cook, sleep and somehow have a social life and complete my university work???

The feeling of trying to train and juggle uni life. (p.s I was too stingy to pay for the photo without  advertisements)

As my year went by, I was that flat mate, who would get annoyed if music was played past 11, as I needed my 10-hour sleep for my morning run. Being in the ‘party’ halls made this near enough impossible, as you may know the walls are very thin in student halls... you hear EVERYTHING…

My life became EAT SLEEP TRAIN UNI REPEAT, was this what University life was about? I would question myself, but at the end of the day I wanted to do well in my sport, so why would I sacrifice this by following the paths of my fellow students and getting swayed into typical student life.

Stay tuned for my next blog!!
