Struck by Injuries
Then the athlete’s worst nightmare INJURY struck and I given at least 2-3 months’ period of no running. GUTTED!! However, was this a blessing in disguise? Was this the break I needed? Could I finally get a taste of real university life in 2k17?
Time to do different sports, go out and party but also not
feel guilty! Weekends away, without having to worry about fitting in a training
session. Something all people who do competitive sport at university want a bit
of at some point surely? Of course, I missed running but I was enjoying this
freedom and It taught me that there was more to life than just TRAIN, EAT, UNI,
SLEEP REPEAT. It was evident to me that my social life in first year had
suffered because of this mentality. As the injury proceeded to not get better, I
started enjoying life running free, although part of me of course still wanted
to be on a track hitting the best times and chasing them PBs. It was clearly evident that summer 2017 season
was definitely out of the picture. A whole summer to do what I wanted, no
gallivanting to races but instead Holidaysss, that I proceeded to book without
a training session in mind or having to factor in that there needs to be an
athletics track close by. (Yes I found a track in Magaluf on my 6th year
holiday, yes I was that person, very nice track though I must say). Did I enjoy
this spontaneous free life, yes, did I miss running though and want my foot to
get better? Yes. Wow dilemasss, pack it up and stop even when my foot got better or give it another shot? Something most athletes face at one point, and
university makes it difficult to choose, and find a balance that you are happy with. Realistically
everyone who has done competitive sport doesn’t really want to take a step back, do it half heartily and just get progressively worse. However, is the
sacrifice and time worth it when realistically very few make it professional.
Or should the love for the sport carry you through?? #deep
Most people post pics of the finest sesh in Maga, instead I went for Magas finest track.
